Edgeland Bluetit

Hand-printed drypoint
17x17cm
Edition of 10

These drypoints are part of a larger new body of work completed during the recent ‘lockdowns’. On my regular permitted walks, I depicted the birds of the urban edgelands around my home and whose presence and song became the backdrop to my daily life.

This image can also be found on the cover of one of my new notebooks which can be found in the 'Stationery' section of this shop.

What is drypoint?

The process is like using a pen without the ink – literally, drawing with a 'dry point' – to create an impression of a drawing which, when inked, can be printed from using an etching press.

Think of it as an etching without the acid, or engraving with an etching needle. Whistler and Picasso are two artists worth looking at for examples of this type of work.

Due to the softness of the printing plates editions are kept small.
