About the Tutors

Hester Cox

Hester is a full-time printmaker with a particular passion for collagraph. Based in the Yorkshire Dales her work is centred on the natural world with its rhythms and cycles. With a number of awards under her belt, Hester's work can be found in many respected galleries across the country. In much demand as a tutor Hester runs workshops for many organisations, including the Woodland Trust. We are delighted that she has found time in her busy diary to host a workshop with us.


Heidi Donohoe

The first thing that strikes you about Heidi is her enthusiasm and passion for all things creative. From her own creative practice as a photographer, to her vast teaching experience, including been a Course (Foundation in Art and Design) at Harrogate College), her reputation as an exciting curator through to her now being the force behind one of the region's largest Open Exhibitions, her artistic energy is always contagious.


Alan Flood

Alan is a much sought after portrait painter who has painted the likes of Sir Ernest Hall, Prue Leith and Ed Sheeran, alongside countless others. His works stands out from the rest due his knowledge of technique and great skill, coupled with a love of the abstract and his curiosity of what paint can achieve. Alongside his portraiture he has been Artist in Residence at a number of high profile venues, both here and abroad.


Emerson Mayes

Emerson is a Yorkshire-born artist who has enjoyed an ever-growing reputation for the fresh, honest and uncontrived approach to his work. He's received a number of major awards and has had many successful exhibitions across the country. His work can be found in numerous private, corporate and public collections - including The House of Lords. Alongside his own artistic practice and his teaching, Emerson is also the CEO of the visual Arts charity New Light.

Chris Moss

Accurately observed and skillfully sculptured, Chris' animals and birds are always a pleasure to not only see, but to handle as well. From her rural studio in North Yorkshire Chris can watch the wildlife she works from at first hand everyday. The finished results are always popular in the many galleries her work is exhibited at. Chris has always been keen to pass on the skills and techniques she uses, and is in high demand as a tutor.


James Naughton

James is one of the UK's most sought after landscape painters. Through his dedication to observation, alongside his desire to communicate his love of light, landscape and paint his work and reputation have gone from strength to strength. His success spans the worlds of both commercial and public galleries, with sell-out exhibitions across the country, as well as well received shows in major public galleries including one in his home town of Bolton. He has always had a passion for teaching and has hosted workshops for all ages and abilities.
